Well it's been a while since I blogged. Some of my loyal reader may know this but others will not. I had a heart attack. It was a mild one as heart attacks go, (i.e. no blockages and a full recovery is predicted), but it was also a wake up call. This event reminded me once again of one of my favorite verses, Romans 8:28. In all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.
How you might ask? Simple...
1. Had I not had this mild attack, my lifestyle (3-4 hours of sleep a night, too busy to exercise), diet (too busy for breakfast, have a hershey bar!), etc., would have caused me to have a far greater problem. This way I have the medication, my diet has changed radically and I am reprioritizing my life.
2. For too long I was smiting the rock, trying to make things happen that only God can really do. I was pressuring myself to make my church work rather than simply doing what He wanted me to do and letting Him work in it. My work in my ministry was making my relationship with God suffer. It happens, don't let it happen to you.
3. I have seen the folks in my church step up and use gifts they already have to do things that I was taking on. What does that do? It gives us depth it allows others to minister, it takes some pressure off of me.
I'm sure there are more if I think about it, but the bottom line is God had to go to some fairly extreme measures to get my attention. Hopefully this will be the last time.
