Most of you familiar with my sites and ministries would assume that I am a visual artist only. This is not the case. Through most of my life I was also interested in drama, puppetry and ventriloquism. When I was a child I had several dummies (no jokes please) and used to do little shows. I still have an interest in it and am in the process of trying to figure out ways to incorporate this into my children's ministry. I joined an elist for Christian ventriloquists to get ideas and one of the postings on that list was about one of my childhood heroes. I won't give his name. On his site he has his biography and allusions to some of his religious beliefs which are, well let's just say, not Christian as the Word of God defines Christianity. Several people commented on the content of his site, here's what I had to say.

I think we might be missing the larger issue. Is it depressing that this legendary guy is so misled spiritually? Yes. Should he be on all our prayer lists? Absolutely! But what we can really gain from this especially those of us who are parents is the power we have for good or evil in the lives of our children. The really frightening part of this story is that the person that led him into these bizarre beliefs (or at least turned him from Christ) professed to be a Christian, his own mother. Church we have got to do better. When we see parents failing in our churches we cannot wash our hands of it. We have to stand for that kid and show them that their abusers are wrong but it's not God's fault. We've got to show kids the love of Jesus, because even in the church they may not be getting it at home. Some of the harshest words Jesus has for anyone are for people who cause children to sin. He says it would be better for them to have millstones around their necks and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. His instructions for us are equally simple "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them." Lets step up for the kids.
God bless,
Dave
